Why are rats/mice used as examination subject within laboratories for things concerning beside humans?

Is there a close proximity on the anatomy of humans and rats that's why they are the ones used or tested near stuff concerning us?
Because most mammals react to medicine in their metabolisms as we do. They are the smallest and cheapest, as a consequence it is easier to conduct multiple experiments without spending too much dosh. Then, they take the reaction that seem to know how to provide the most information, and transfer them to a larger level. Id est; monkey, cat, dog. Their metabolism is extremely close to ours.
Once a drug reaches a trustworthy level, it will be tested on humans, but to brand name sure the really dangerous ones are weed out before butchery any humans, the animals are used instead.
